Josep Serrano presents his book Fray Pedro Mártir Sans Jordà, OP.

The work, which focuses on Dominican missions in China, is the result of almost twenty years of work by the UIC Barcelona historian and professor

Josep Serrano, professor at the faculties of Law and Humanities at UIC Barcelona, presented his book Fray Pedro Mártir Sans Jordà, OP., Las misiones dominicas en China, (Brother Peter Sanz, OP., Dominican missions to China”) on Saturday, 13 January, in the events room at Ascó Town Hall. After almost twenty years of research, the historian has published new information on Saint Peter Sanz, through research into new documentary sources. “It is about delving into the life and work of a man who dedicated his life to evangelism in Catholic missions to China, where he died a martyr” explains the professor.

The book includes three volumes and is structured in nine chapters, and includes a biography of the Dominican bishop from Ascó. In addition the book’s biographical aspect, the expert aims to delve into the saint’s historical significance, his role as a missionary in China, and his subsequent beatification and canonisation.

After Serrano’s presentation, a round table was held to discuss the figure of Saint Peter Sanz in the Dominican order, with contributions by Marc Escolà, protonotary at the European University; Josep Maria Sants Travé, member of the Academia de Buenas Letras de Barcelona; Alejandro López, Dominican prelate in Spain; and Xavier Baró, professor and researcher at UIC Barcelona.
