“Literature, a Magic Mirror,” an exhibition on the work of Carlos Pujol
UIC Barcelona has organised a literary exhibition on the work of Carlos Pujol curated by Dr Teresa Vallès, assistant professor at the Faculty of Humanities, and accompanied by two students, Mireia Garcia and Ignacio Pont
On 18 April, the exhibition “Literature, a magic mirror” was opened, in which six literary characters tell us about the author, Carlos Pujol. The event was presented by exhibition curator, Teresa Vallès, assistant professor at the Faculty of Humanities. Also participating in the opening were Isabel Otoya, a young singer-songwriter who performed her own musical compositions, inspired by the literary texts of Carlos Pujol; and Ana Puig, a Humanities alumnus, who gave performed a dramatized reading of one of the author’s stories. Humanities students Ignacio Pont and Mireia Garcia also participated in organising the exhibition.
The exhibition is an invitation to rediscover the value of literature led by the writer Carlos Pujol through his poems and stories. The title of the exhibition refers to one of his aphorisms “Without literature, reality would lose its magic mirror,” and the subtitle refers to the famous play by Pirandello, Six Characters in Search of an Author. The six portraits on display represent six characters from Pujol’s stories and poems and reflect their author in some way; these are the costumes or masks which the writer hides behind and, at the same time, shows himself.
Through a guided tour with brief live musical and theatrical performances using QR codes, the figure of the author has been presented from a different and innovative perspective. Pujol’s family attended the presentation and, together with the curator, were able to answer all types of questions from the audience about the author and his works.
The exhibition, promoted by the Faculty of Humanities, can be seen until 28 April, on the fifth floor of the Alpha Building, on the Barcelona Campus.
