Magical 7th edition of Filmmaking at UIC Barcelona, with “Top Gun: Maverick” as best remake
The 7th edition of Filmmaking, promoted by the Faculty of Communication Sciences, was held on 13 June in the Aula Magna. With fresh popcorn and a lot of excitement, attendees were able to enjoy the magic of scenes from Top Gun: Maverick, La La Land, Brooklyn 99, Better Call Saul and American Beauty. Miquel Cozzarin, fourth-year Audiovisual Communication student, was master of ceremony for the event with a show full of details and sprinkled with humour
The 7th edition of Filmmaking began with a video in which the participating students explained what Filmmaking meant to them. The words they used most were passion, teamwork, fun, and sacrifice. Throughout the course, students put themselves in the shoes of directors, producers, cameras and actors, to recreate some of the most famous scenes from major productions.
After many months of work, their projects made it to the big screen in the Aula Jardí. “This is the only time that copying is allowed,” Miquel Cozzarin commented. Eloy Calvo, lecturer in charge of coordinating the activity this year, stated that a lot of work went into the projects, “For me, it has been a pleasure to support them in the process.” Oscar Sueiro, head audiovisual technician, valued the time students spent on their projects: “It is something I value very much, because it shows that they are highly motivated; they do it because they want to.”
A great voice and piano in La La Land, a very well-known beach scene in Top Gun: Maverick, a moving performance in Brooklyn 99, a certain air of mystery in Better Call Saul and a great resemblance to the original in American Beauty resonated with the audience.
After seeing some of the most legendary scenes, it was time to vote. Attendees were able to vote through a QR code. The award for Best Filmmaking went to Marina Germà for Top Gun: Maverick while Best Director went to Mireia Molina also for Top Gun: Maverick. Best Photography went to Alex Vergel for Top Gun: Maverick, and Best Production Design went to Mireia Molina for La La Land. Miquel Cozzarin won Best Performance for Brooklyn 99. The award for Best Remake went to Top Gun: Maverick.
