María Jiménez, general secretary of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, is patron of the graduating class of the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Specialising in research in the clinical field of critically ill patients in emergency situations and ethics and bioethics, Jiménez encouraged graduates to face this new stage by putting into practice the nursing leadership skills acquired during training
Presided by Encarna Rodríguez, director of the Nursing Department, the graduation ceremony took place on 21 June at the Aula Magna of the Barcelona Campus. Nurse and general secretary of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, María Jiménez, was the patron of the new class of nurses of the University.
During her speech, Jiménez reminded the new colleagues that “the practise of nursing is an art, centred on healing people.” At the same time, the patron of the event recommended students that they “face with attitude and aptitude the new challenges that present themselves in the beginning, putting into practice the skills acquired during the degree that define nursing leadership, such as perseverance, critical thinking and continuous learning.”
The ceremony continued with the placing of sashes and the awarding of diplomas to graduates, as well as the presentation of the Extraordinary Final Degree Award in Nursing for the class of 2024 to Raquel Sánchez Ortega. The ceremony continued with the words of the class representatives who addressed their classmates, family, friends and teachers who accompanied them on such a special day.
Lecturer Leandra Martín, the sponsor chosen by the students, congratulated the new colleagues, reminding them that “nursing is a wonderful but very demanding profession. You have a responsibility to continue to learn and be leaders in healing people, promoting health and well-being.”
Encarna Rodríguez, director of the Nursing Department, was in charge of closing the event with words of gratitude to all those attending and encouraged the new graduates to “promote transformative initiatives from the nursing profession, faithful to your values and the values that identify you as nurses from UIC Barcelona”. “Do not forget that you are the future of nursing,” she added.
