Maria Pujol Valls participates in the edition of a book about the writer Josep Vallverdú

The lecturer at the Faculty of Education Sciences of UIC Barcelona Maria Pujol Valls has participated in the elaboration of the book Amb ulls ben nets de por i polseguera (With eyes free of fear and dust), about the contribution of Josep Vallverdú to Catalan literature and culture. The book is a tribute to Vallverdú on the centenary of his birth, 9 July 2023

Josep Vallverdú is a novelist, poet, playwright, linguist, translator and essayist with a long career as an author of children’s and youth literature, with more than two hundred works. On the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of the writer from Lleida, the project has been launched by Pagès Editors and directed by Andreu Bosch i Rodoreda and Joan Ramon Veny-Mesquida, with the participation of sixteen more authors.

Dr Maria Pujol Valls is one of the specialists invited to participate in the edition of this book. The authors have carried out a series of scientific analyses of the various literary and cultural contributions of Vallverdú. The objective was to record the author’s work for future research and offer an objective approach to  the polyhedral nature of his work.

Maria Pujol Valls is one of the top specialists in Vallverdú’s work, thanks to her thesis – the only one on the author – titled “The career of Josep Vallverdú: between cultural activism and literary talent”. The lecturer at the faculty of Education Sciences has been responsible for updating the web pages dedicated to the author.

The book includes studies by eighteen experts on different aspects of Vallverdú’s work such as the use and conception of the language; geography and history of the country; classical references; speeches and lectures; poetry; personal books and essays; theatre; his work as a historian and as a literary critic and translator; personal correspondence; his work as a teacher and linguist in the Philological Section of the Institute of Catalan Studies and his narrative style. This last part was written by Dr Pujol Valls, together with Enric Falguera and Laia Guzmán.
