Marian Lorente, Member of Scientific Committee for European Conference on Multidisciplinary Pain Treatment

Dr. Marian Lorente, the Director of the Anatomy Lab in the UIC Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, took part in a roundtable discussion on the use of acupuncture in treating spinal pain at the 4th edition of the European Conference on Multidisciplinary Pain Treatment, which was held in Menorca from Wednesday to Sunday, 7-11 May 2014.

Dr. Lorente participated in a roundtable discussion with Dr. Rafael Cobos, the Director of the Master’s Programme in Acupuncture at Universidad Pablo de Olavide de Sevilla and a doctor in the Pain Unit at the Hospital Virgen del Rocío in Seville, and Dr. Alfonso Vidal, who has a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture and works in the Pain Unit at the Hospital de Alcorcón Sur in Madrid. During the session “Treating Spinal Pain with Acupuncture and Related Techniques”, the participants discussed the treatment (protocol, point placement, application techniques) for neck pain, spinal pain and lower back pain. A specific case model was used for each pathology, analysis of different points and application technique.

The conference, whose theme was “Pain in Paediatrics: Nutrition, Dermatology, Asthma”, was organized by Asthma, the Spanish Association Against Pain and the World Health Association. Participants discussed the latest advances in the field of pain treatment and exchanged experiences with issues such as asthma and pain, chronic paediatric pain and the role of pharmaceutical drugs in pain treatment. Dr. Lorente was also a member of the conference scientific committee.
