Montserrat Gas: “Companies play a crucial role in caring for families”
The director of the Institute for Advanced Family Studies (IESF) at UIC Barcelona participated in the presentation of the VII Guía de buenas prácticas [Seventh Good Practices Guide]. Gas participated as the author of the prologue and Lecturer Marc Grau authored one of the chapters. The publication is promoted by the Centre for Work-Family Balance (CONFyE) of the IAE Business School
The Good Practices Guide is an initiative that reflects the work done by CONFyE with companies to transmit a series of procedures, whose purpose is to share the knowledge acquired with organisations. This seventh edition of the guide, entitled Hacia el cuidado de la ecología humana: familia, empresa y sociedad [Towards the Care of Human Ecology: Family, Business and Society], was coordinated by Patricia Debeljuh and Researcher Magdalena de la Serna. The guide highlights the actions of twenty-five Latin American companies to improve the balance between family and work life of their employees.
At the event, which took place in the YPF Tower, the director of the IESF, Montserrat Gas, stressed that companies have a crucial role in caring for families and advocated for policies of reconciliation and valorisation of family life as a benefit for society and for companies. As she writes in the prologue, “the family, more than the school, is where we teach the future citizens and employees; it is not exclusively private, but a collective good that we must protect.”
Marc Grau, lecturer at the Institute for Advanced Family Studies, wrote the second chapter of the guide, which focuses on parenthood and organisations. The research carried out by Grau, which surveyed more than 200 parents, was possible thanks to the support of the IAE Business School.
The event has had two academic panels in which topics such as the new generation expectations and parenthood in the work environment were discussed. Among others, participants included Antonio Argandoña, professor emeritus of Economics and Business Ethics at IESE Business School; Patricia Debeljuh, director of CONFyE; and Reynaldo Rivera, director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing at Universidad Austral.
