New Edition of International Course on Aesthetic Surgery

On Thursday and Friday, 24-25 April 2014, the 3rd International Practical Training Course on Aesthetic Surgery and Facial Rejuvenation took place at the UIC, led by UIC professors Dr. Josep Maria Serra-Renom and Dr. Marian Lorente, together with Dr. Francesco D'Andrea from the Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli.

The course demonstrated that techniques used on cadaveric material improve cosmetic surgery and prevent mistakes in the operating room. The practical part of the course was held in the Jordi Cervós-Navarro Surgical and Functional Anatomy Laboratory.

The Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and the Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli have been organizing this theory-practical facial anatomy course together for the past three years, owing to the importance of prior anatomical knowledge and familiarity with the extremely delicate facial anatomy (the facial nerve, extraocular muscles, deposits of orbital fat, retaining ligaments and mimic muscles, and how these structures interrelate) in the field of facial cosmetic surgery.

The participants in this year’s course were for the most part service managers and physicians from public and private clinics in several different countries, including Sweden, Italy and Argentina. The course was given in Spanish, English, and Italian.
