New edition of UIC Social Day brings solidarity closer to the whole university community
For the seventh consecutive year, the University has organised its solidarity celebration. As part of the different social commitment and awareness activities, this Wednesday the entire university community was able to sign up for one of the eight missions, in cooperation with ten local social entities
More than 500 students, faculty and service staff members from the University signed up for the eight UIC Social Day solidarity missions over the course of the day, which this year was based on preparing lunches for the homeless, writing postcards to people in hard situations, making advent calendars with people with functional diversity, collect food for families at risk of social exclusion, play paddle tennis with people with disabilities and become more aware of hearing and visual disabilities.
“The aim of this day is for students and staff members to realise the need for and importance of volunteering and helping the people who need it most. For this reason, we invited different social entities to bring these realities closer to the whole university community,” explained Daniel Bonfills, Head of the Solidarity Services at UIC Barcelona.
The different missions were supported by ten social entities such as T-Oigo, Retama Association, Acció Social Montalegre, Aste Bcn, Residencia de Mira-Sol, Cáritas Terrassa, Assisi Centre de recollida homeless shelter, AIS Assistance for Children without Resources, Família Amic and Catalan Association for the Visually Impaired.
Social Day brought University students, faculty and staff closer to the social world and the community and to volunteering activities offered over the course of the academic year and reached the solidarity milestones proposed for the event.
Social Day was the kick off for the solidarity campaign food drive that is done at Christmas and will continue over the upcoming weeks at the entrances of both the Barcelona Campus and the Sant Cugat Campus.
