Over 200 Students Present Papers at UIC's UNIV Forum

More than 200 students from different Catalan universities and academic disciplines participated in the UIC's 2014 UNIV Forum on Saturday, 22 February 2014. The Faculty of Humanities organized the forum for the fifth consecutive year.

The theme proposed for this year’s UNIV Forum is "Cosmos: The Ecology of the Person and His Environment”. The participants included students in degree programmes such as Medicine, Education, Economics, Pharmacy, Humanities and Architecture. They gave talks that explored the theme from different angles. The international editions of the forum have been held in Rome during Holy Week for more than 40 years. Some students participated through posters displayed during the forum.

The papers were read in different topic rooms in which a UIC professor acted as the jury member. Each paper was followed by an interdisciplinary debate among the students from the different participating universities.

The final paper was by Antoni Prevosti, a professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at the Universitat de Barcelona, on “The Wisdom of Greece and China on the World and Nature". Teresa Vallès, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, offered closing remarks.

Prevosti is the author of La física de Aristóteles (Aristotle's Physics, 1984), La teoría del infinito de Aristóteles (Aristotle's Theory of Infinity, 1985) and Ciencia y trascendencia (Science and Transcendence, 1987), among other works. He also translated Francesc Canals' Antología metafísica (A Metaphysics Anthology, 1991) into Catalan. Prevosti considers himself a disciple of Canals. He is also the current president of the Barcelona chapter of the Thomas Aquinas International Society.
