PhD student in Health Sciences Anna Ortega, wins the contest for explaining your thesis in four minutes

PhD student in Health Sciences, Anna Ortega, is the winner of this year’s contest “Present your thesis in 4 minutes”. Ortega will represent UIC Barcelona with the thesis “Effectiveness of mirror therapy in bimanual functionality for improving the quality of life of children with cerebral palsy” at the interuniversity final, organised by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI). It will take place at the CaixaForum in Lleida, on 22 June

Anna Ortega presented her thesis on mirror therapy as a method for improving the quality of life and mobility in children with Unilateral Spastic Cerebral Palsy. All participants were of a very high standard, but the jury felt that Ortega won out over the other 10 contestants.

In total, 11 doctoral students presented their theses at this internal stage of the competition. The candidates were from the different fields of the UIC Barcelona Doctoral School: four in Communications, one from Education and Humanities, four in Health Sciences and two from Economics and Law.

The other two winners were Javier de Miguel, doctorand of Economics and Law, who received the second prize for the presentation of his thesis on the influence of scholastic authors on Spanish fiscal law, and Aleix Herreras, who received the audience prize for four minutes dedicated to explaining his communications thesis: “The adaptation of musical syntax in the texts of the electoral campaign ads of Trump, Hilary and Biden”.

The members of the jury were lecturers Xavier Escribano and Núria Masip, from the departments of Humanities and Basic Sciences respectively, and Javier Raventós, from the University’s Communications Department. The three members of the jury analysed each presentation based on the following evaluation criteria: comprehension and content, and commitment and communication.
