Pilar Lacorte Discusses Family Relationships as Driving Force for Social Change

Pilar Lacorte, the Assistant Director of Educational Programmes for the UIC Institute of Advanced Family Studies (IESF), gave the lecture «Family Upbringing: A Key Emerging Force in the 21st Century» at an event organized by the Balearic Institute for Family Policy to mark the 20th anniversary of the International Day of Families.

The event took place at the Caixa Forum building in Palma de Mallorca and was presided over by Núria Riera, the Balearic Minister of Public Administration. Representatives from Palma de Mallorca City Council and members of the Balearic Parliament were also present.

During her lecture, Lacorte discussed family relationships as a driving force for change and improvement on both a personal and social level. She placed particular emphasis on the spousal relationship and expressed the need for family policies to encourage and respect the family’s role in personalizing ethical values.

Although the concept of family is changing, experience shows us that the intimate relationships established in the family are the mainstay of life. Family relationships are based on an unconditional bond. This emotional framework constitutes the setting in which human beings learn and fully develop their personality. It is fundamental to our upbringing.
