Professor Núria Sebastián is patron of the third graduating class of the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology

Sebastián, pioneer in bilingual learning research in babies and internationally renowned, encouraged the new graduates to transmit values such as kindness, happiness and compassion in the exercise of their profession to contribute to a better society

As is tradition, the graduation ceremony celebrated 20 June in the Aula Magna of the Barcelona Campus had an original format. The traditional commencement speech became an interview conducted by two graduating students. The full professor in Basic Psychology at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Núria Sebastián, shared reflections on the role of psychologists in modern society with the alumni through an interview conducted by graduates Carla Alloza and Maribel Canalejo.

In her speech, the patron stressed: “As psychologists, our greatest challenge is the human being. In a rapidly evolving society in which technology and artificial intelligence play an important role, as professionals we have the responsibility to look after those around us and transmit values that promote happiness and well-being.” Sebastián also had a reminder for the new psychologists, “It is very important to strive and work to be prepared to take advantage of opportunities that arise through life.” On a personal level she advised them “to pay attention to different situations where you find yourself radiating happiness because it is a great benefit both for you and for those around you”.

The placing of the sashes and awarding of diplomas then took place, and the event continued with speeches by the class representatives. They highlighted the evolution experienced during the time at the University and encouraged their colleagues to start this new stage with authenticity and responsibility.

María Gámiz, director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, was charged with closing the event, and dedicated a few words to the new graduates, in which she encouraged them to start the adventure in the professional world with confidence, “and use everything you’ve learned over these four years to provide quality care to the people you work with and have a positive influence on them.”
