Rosa Tous patron for the first class to graduate the Master’s Degree in Communication, Brand Management and Sustainability in the Fashion Industry

Corporate vice-president of Tous and gemmologist by profession, Rosa Tous, participated in the master’s degree graduation ceremony, held on 9 June at UIC Barcelona

The acting dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Pere Buhigas, presided over the graduation ceremony of the first class to graduate this master’s programme and emphasized the difficulty involved in launching studies in an area that is currently a hot topic. Elisa Regadera, director of the master’s degree, welcomed the attendees and introduced the patron, Rosa Tous.

Rosa Tous, gemmologist by profession and corporate vice president of TOUS since 2013, addressed the attendees tracing the trajectory of the century-old brand Tous. “I am very excited to be an historic event for you, in an institution we cherish.” Going back to the beginnings of the Tous brand in 1920, she commented that in 1930, the love story between her parents was the first of the many love stories that have journeyed with the brand in its more than 100 years of existence. “My mother was the heart and my father the head. But it was my mother who realised that women were starting to want jewellery for the day-to-day and not just for special occasions,” she explained.

Tous talked about how the brand has journeyed through time and compared it with the trajectory of the students who were graduating. “The feelings you are experiencing now are like butterflies in your stomach when you are heading for the airport; the anticipation of starting on a new adventure. Now you are about to embark on a long journey, and you need to set your direction, know your purpose.” To do this, Rosa Tous recommended that the students rely on the three Cs (consistency, coherence and consequence), then she added a fourth C, curiosity. “Be curious; ask, learn from everything and everyone,” she said.

The students received their graduation diplomas, presented by Pere Buhigas, Rosa Tous and Elisa Regadera. Maria Ripoll, class delegate, addressed the attendees with a few words in which she highlighted having had some incredible teachers, as well as the good teamwork environment that existed among all the classmates.

Elisa Regadera, director of the master’s degree, congratulated the students who graduated and stressed the importance of honesty and empathy. “Never forget that the entire supply chain, first and foremost, consists of people, from the producers of raw materials to the store managers, to the person responsible for the social media plan. And try to be aware of the impact your work has on this common home we call earth. That integral sense of sustainability the legacy that we hope you would take away from this master’s degree,” she said.

Pere Buhigas closed the event with a final thought: “Fashion is linked to society, to the economy, to politics, to human relationships. Fashion goes back a long way, there is a future in this field, and you will be the protagonists. I recommend that your learning and training continues your entire life, that you tell the truth and that you fall in love with your work.”
