The Sant Cugat Campus hosts the first edition of the Biomedical Student Conference (CEBUIC), organised by UIC Barcelona students

Promoted by the students in the bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, the initiative brought together more than 60 participants and had presentations and workshops by leading experts in the sector

The Sant Cugat Campus hosted the first edition of the Biomedical Student Conference (CEBUIC) from 6 to 8 July, organised entirely by students studying the University’s bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and aimed at all students interested in the field of biosciences.

More than 60 young people attended this multidisciplinary meeting and for three days, they had the opportunity to participate in different lectures by top researchers and professionals such as Laura Canals, medical director of the Global Platform at Amgen; Luis Ruíz-Ávila, CEO at Aquilon Cyl and Leukos Biotech; Alejandro Portela, director of the technological department at Vitala Technologies and researcher at the UIC Barcelona Bioengineering Institute of Technology; Lluís Montoliu, researcher and deputy director of the National Centre for Biotechnolgy of the Spanish National Research Council (CNB-CSIC); Laura Soucek, CEO and cofounder of Peptomyc; Andrés Ozaita, principal investigator of the Neurophar group; or Meritxell Teixidó, CEO and CSO of Gate2Brain, among others.

With round table discussions and workshops, the students learned first-hand about the experience of researchers and entrepreneurs who created their own start-ups, as well as the job opportunities offered in the biomedical sector.

Students organising the conference explained that “organising CEBUIC has been a very enriching experience that has exceeded all our expectations with the warm reception and high attendance received. We trust the second edition will be just as successful!”
