Students and lecturers from the Faculty of Dentistry participate as speakers and moderators in the 44th Annual Meeting of Paediatric Dentistry
During the sessions organised by the Spanish Association of Paediatric Dentistry (SEOP), Dr Gemma Redondo, Dr Cristina García and Dr Jenny Abanto, Paediatric Dentistry teachers, made presentations and master's degree programme and clinical residency students presented more than thirty oral papers and posters. The projects presented were received several awards including the 2022 Award for Best Scientific Article published in the journal Odontología Pediátrica
Like every year, the Spanish Association of Paediatric Dentistry (SEOP) brought together professionals from the dental sector for the national conference, including Paediatric Dentistry students and teachers of the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Dentistry.
From 11 to 13 May, the 44th Annual Meeting of the Spanish Association of Paediatric Dentistry (SEOP) brought together professionals, teachers and researchers from the dental sector in a common effort to look at conditions in the paediatric patient from different points of view in paediatric dentistry. Dr Francisco Guinot, head of Paediatric Dentistry, was part of the organising committee as a member of the SEOP scientific committee. During the three days of the congress, numerous presentations were made by 31 renown speakers, among which were the Department of Paediatric Dentistry teachers from the Faculty: Gemma Redondo, Cristina García and Jenny Abanto. Master’s degree in Paediatric Dentistry and Clinical Residency students had the opportunity to present more than thirty papers and posters.
As part of the conference, prizes were awarded, some of which went to projects carried out by teachers and students of the Faculty. Specifically, Ana Veloso and Cristina Vallès, Periodontics teachers, as well as Nuria Nieto, Clàudia Lluch and Fran Guinot, master’s degree in Paediatric Dentistry student and teachers, respectively, received the first runner-up of the Ángel Bellet Award for Best Novel Oral Paper for the study “Asociación entre la apnea obstructiva del sueño y la salud dental pediátrica” [Association between obstructive sleep apnea and paediatric dental health].
Second runner-up of the Maria Luisa Gozalvo Award for the Best Oral Paper was given to the project “Percepción de los padres y aceptación de la pigmentación de fluoruro diamino de plata en Italia” [Parental perceptions and acceptance of silver diamine fluoride pigmentation in Italy], by Simone Bagattoni, Gabriela Piana, student Maria Chiara Cappiello and Paediatric Dentistry teachers Ana Veloso and Fran Guinot.
Lastly, the 2022 Award for Best Scientific Article published in the journal Odontología Pediátrica went to the study “Prevalencia de mordisco abierto en niños entre 3 y 8 años de edad y su asociación con el hábito de succión no nutritivo del chupete” [Prevalence of open bite in children between ages 3 and 8 and its association with the nonnutritive sucking habit of a pacifier], by Isabel Leng Chung, alumni Inés Marquès and UIC Barcelona Paediatric Dentistry teachers Clàudia Lluch, Ana Veloso and Fran Guinot.
