UIC and i2CAT Organize First RICHES Project Workshop

The RICHES Project Workshop will be held on Tuesday, 13 May 2014, on the UIC's Barcelona campus and will serve as the foundation for the RICHES project research areas. Its outcomes will include an initial agreement of basic definitions and conceptual frameworks that will outline the project, based on the study of the context of change and the role of cultural heritage in economic and social development in Europe.

The project partners are international professionals who are key figures in the development of cultural heritage. They are invited to participate and contribute to the definition of the taxonomy and concepts of the RICHES project.

RICHES (Renewal, Innovation and Change: Heritage and European Society) is a research project about change, because the arrival of digital technologies calls for a transformation that offers European citizens the incredible opportunity of using their cultural heritage to drive social and economic development. As digital technologies permeate all of society, compelling us to rethink how we do everything, RICHES asks questions such as: How can cultural heritage institutions renew and reinvent themselves? How should an increasingly diverse society use its cultural heritage? How can European citizens, individually or as part of a community, play a vital co-creative role? What are the limitations of new technologies in representing and promoting cultural heritage? How can cultural heritage be a force in the new economy of the European Union?

With this practical workshop, the UIC and i2CAT will join forces to narrow the gap between the world of change in which cultural heritage is reinventing itself, the academic community (professors and researchers) and students (the next generation of cultural managers worldwide). The workshop is also a unique opportunity to promote and raise awareness about the RICHES project among researchers, educators, scientists, industry professionals and policy makers, as well as the new strategies and research areas being developed in the European context.
