UIC Barcelona Architecture lecturers participate in the first Metaverse Architecture Biennale

A UIC Barcelona project, led by Diego Navarro, in which lecturers Oriol Carrasco and Pedro Cortés also collaborated, participated in the first Metaverse Architecture Biennale. The Biennale was held virtually from 21 to 24 September. The online event “Presence of the Future” featured pavilions designed by metaverse architects

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture presented a pavilion that was an educational innovation project. “Metaverse: The role of the Architect in Digital Environments,” received 3rd prize in the fourth edition of the Puig Foundation Grants in Teaching Innovation 2022.
The pavilion was developed at UIC Barcelona and explores the emerging field of metaverse, the role of architects in shaping design and the development of these digital environments to create better user experiences.
The proposal begins with a continuously expanding 3D orthogonal grid, built from basic spatial structures. These elements appear and disappear through various formalizations: structure, point of view, openness and intimacy. At the same time, these pieces are grouped and interconnected through stairs, ramps and corridors.
The pavilion is a space where multiple realities, experiences and structures coexist, and evokes the sensation of being in different places at the same time. Instead of seeing space as a static and defined entity, it is seen as a series of events and situations that can be constantly generated and transformed.

This Biennale was a global online event that brought together creators from all over the world to show the importance of architecture and design in the Metaverse. The Biennale creates virtual universes in which users can discover different projects.
