UIC Barcelona goes all out in the seventh edition of the Antena Solidària 2023
500 runners and more than 130 volunteers participated in the seventh edition of the Antena Solidària Trail Pedralbes solidarity race held last Sunday in Collserola with support from UIC Barcelona. Students in Physiotherapy and Dentistry were involved in the initiative and actively participated in this solidarity event. The race, which started in the Pedralbes Monastery Square, once again reached the goal of raising awareness and funds for two NGOs: NASCO Feeding Minds and the Escola Moragas
The Antena Solidària Trail Pedralbes, created in 2015, is a solidarity mountain race that passes through the trails and paths of the Collserola mountain range in two competitive races, 22 km and 11 km, and an 8 km festive popular walk. This event seeks to make a direct impact on society, cooperating with different NGOs. The race is organised by the Pedralbes Student Resident Hall [Col·legi Major Universitari Pedralbes] and the Pedralbes Neighbourhood Association, and for the second consecutive year it was sponsored by UIC Barcelona.
In this edition, the UIC Barcelona’s Faculties of Medicine and Health Sciences and Dentistry participated in Antena Solidària. Twenty Physiotherapy students, under the guidance of lecturer Pol Serra, helped in the active post-recovery area for runners. The Faculty of Dentistry was also involved with the Antena Solidària race, joining the “Run without Resistance” initiative of the National Antibiotic Resistance Plan (PRAN). It is an annual race in which different faculties of Dentistry cooperate, in a coordinated way in different events, to support the PRAN. The dean of this Faculty, Lluís Giner, participated in the Antena’s popular walk and gave the trophies to the winners at the end of the race.
Winners of this seventh edition included two students from UIC Barcelona: Malo Bouré, second-year Physiotherapy student, and Laia Amorós, second-year Biomedical Sciences student, who came in second place in the Sub23 category of the 11 km race.
As in the previous edition, the NGOs benefiting were NASCO Feeding Minds, which promotes education for young people in Ghana to curb the effects of immigration; and the Escola Moragas, a special education school in need of funds for extracurricular activities and tutoring services.
With this second edition as a primary sponsor, UIC Barcelona has consolidated itself as the main partner of an event with roots in the Pedralbes, Les Corts and Sarria-Sant Gervasi neighbourhoods. Thus, two of the University’s fundamental values become meaningful: commitment of serving others and promotion of solidarity.
