UIC to Host Symposium on Promoting Humanist Values in Companies
On Friday, 28 February 2013, the UIC's Department of Management by Missions and Corporate Governance (DPM) will organize the second edition of the international Symposium ?Companies with a Human Face?, which seeks to promote humanist ideals in the corporate environment. The symposium will be held at the UIC and numerous well-known business leaders and academics are expected to attend. It aims to promote a business approach that has an increased focus on people.
“We’re keen to find out how to improve business organizations and make them more human, and how to bring missions into companies and to make the employees internalize them and make them their own”, explained Carlos Rey, the Director of the DPM Department. To this end, February’s symposium aims to demonstrate that humanism in business is indeed possible and that the reintroduction of humanist values in the business world is very necessary.
“The economic crisis is encouraging companies to question some of their guiding principles of the last few years and to consider new, more humanistic approaches and styles of management that are not exclusively focused on profit and financial indicators”, said Miquel Bastons, Assistant Director of the DPM Department, at the previous edition of the event, on february 2013.
The 2014 edition will feature talks on economics, business and humanism from Alejandro Llano, Professor of Philosophy at the Universidad de Navarra, and Juan M. Serrano, a lecturer at TiasNimbas Business School (part of Tilburg University in the Netherlands). From the business world, Josep M. Pujol, President of Ficosa International (and also President of the UIC’s Board of Trustees), will draw on his own experiences to speak about values and management by missions. He will be joined by a number of fellow directors from a variety of major multinational firms.
The symposium is one of the many events held throughout the academic year by the Department of Management by Missions and Corporate Governance, whose aim is to raise awareness of this new business paradigm by organizing congresses, conferences, roundtable sessions and other information activities.
