The UIC Launches +1: New Student Magazine

On Monday, 10 February 2014, the UIC launched its new magazine, +1 (www.sumanthistories.com), an online publication that aims to provide readers in the university community with general-interest stories. The magazine aspires to go one step further than its predecessor, Newsuic, and offer much more content.

Jaume Figa i Vaello, the magazine's editor and a journalist in the UIC Office of Communication, explained that the magazine was launched with the intention of “letting people get to know more about the UIC than just our two campuses and, at the same time, presenting information of general interest.” It is a new publication adapted to the current situation. “We want to add fresh content to what's out there and help people grow on a professional, personal and human level", said Figa to explain the choice of the magazine's name and subtitle, +1: Adding Stories.

The new web-based magazine boasts videos, interviews and features stories, as well as articles about Barcelona, suggestions for leisure activities, opinion columns, and contributions from well-known journalists such as Joaquín Luna, Sergi Dòria, Francesc Canosa and Salvador Aragonés.

+1: Adding Stories is replacing Newsuic, a magazine that was published for 10 years. At the end of each academic year, a new issue of +1: Adding Stories will be available in print to provide a selection of the year's best content and offer news specifically aimed at University alumni.

The narrator in the magazine's promotional video is Pepe Mediavilla, the actor who provides the dub-over voice in Spanish for characters such as Morgan Freeman in Invictus and The Shawshank Redemption and Ian McKellen's Gandalf.
