UIC Professor Supervises App That Monitors Migraines

Dr. Joan Izquierdo, a professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, has validated MIGRApp, the first mobile phone app that monitors migraine headaches.

Dr. Izquierdo, the coordinator of the Headache Group at the Hospital General de Catalunya and a member of the Spanish Society of Neurology, monitored fifteen patients with migraine to validate the application.

By means of the app, the neurologist can monitor what patients eat and drink, as well as the activities they perform, to discover what triggers their migraines.

The application was created by the Spanish Association of People with Headache (AEPAC) and the Vodafone Spain Foundation with the aim of helping people who suffer from headache to gain control over this ailment. MIGRApp allows users and the neurologist to keep a record of the things that might trigger a migraine crisis.
