The University reaffirms its commitment to sustainability with the installation of solar panels on the Campus Barcelona
UIC Barcelona remains firmly committed to sustainability and energy savings to face the climate crisis. To this end, 293 photovoltaic solar modules have recently been installed on the roofs of both buildings on the Barcelona Campus. Installation is expected to mean energy savings between 12% and 15% and a decrease in UIC Barcelona's carbon footprint
Since the end of July, and throughout the month of August, professionals from Electrofluxe, the company awarded the contract in the bidding process, were in charge installing and commissioning the photovoltaic solar panels on the roofs of the buildings on Carrer Inmaculada.
In coordination with the Operations Office, almost 300 solar panels were installed, each with a maximum watt-peak (wp) power. This installation represents a large investment, which is expected to return in energy savings between 12% and 15%.
Also in line with digital transformation and automation of systems, the director of Operations, Israel Moreno, also explained that “We have implemented a building management system that allows air conditioning in the Alfa and Beta buildings on the Barcelona Campus to be centrally automated and controlled.” University Manager Josep Maria Torné added that “The most interesting thing about this system is that it opens the way to the so-called smart buildings.”
In short, and as stated by Silvia Albareda, director of the UIC Barcelona Cooperation and Sustainable Development Office, “This investment shows UIC Barcelona's clear commitment to sustainability in coherence with the Strategic Plan for Sustainability and Social Commitment.”
