Victoria Offenbächer and Facundo Baranzano: “Our experience at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine has exceeded our expectations and has allowed us to set new goals for the future”
The two fourth-year bachelor’s degree in Dentistry students spent two weeks at the prestigious North American university thanks to the cooperation agreement with the Faculty of Dentistry
For the second consecutive year, two Dentistry students have had the opportunity to travel to Newark (New Jersey) for a two-week stay at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. They were able to attend clinical cases and rotate through the departments of Prosthodontics and Periodontics along with the rest of the students at Rutgers.
Victoria Offenbächer and Facundo Baranzano explained that they chose to participate in this exchange programme because they wanted the experience of a stay abroad and at the same time learn a different way of approaching dentistry. The two students also emphasised that “it was a great experience to be able to observe surgical approaches at the clinics in the periodontics department, as well as to learn about dealing with the patient and treatment protocols in the Prosthodontics Department.”
On a personal and academic level, they said, “we totally recommend this experience because it has been extremely enriching and has helped us to expand horizons and get out of our comfort zone.” Furthermore, “actively participating in the classes has made us aware of the level of knowledge we acquired during the bachelor’s degree programme at UIC Barcelona, because thanks to our training, some teachers invited us to visit the master’s degree programme clinics at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.”
This is the second exchange with the North American university, the result of the cooperation agreement between both institutions, thanks to the support and cooperation of Dr Rosa Chaviano (Associate Dean for Admissions) and Dr Herminio Pérez (Assistant Dean for Student Affairs) at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.
