The Determinants of Health and Health Policy Evaluation Group, located in the Biostatistics Area of the Department of Basic Sciences under the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, is made up of statisticians, epidemiologists, health professionals and biologists, among other professionals. Its mission is to study the determinants of noncommunicable diseases in the population at the global level, which are currently the main cause of morbidity and mortality in developed and developing countries.
The group incorporates statistical tools such as spatiality and the Bayesian approach in their methodology. The group’s main lines of research include monitoring smoking and its morbidity associated to cancer; screen exposure in children and its effect on diet, sleep and mental health; and the study of vulnerable populations, such as homelessness among women.
