On 23 October a new edition of the B-EXCELLENT programme began. This initiative of the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences seeks to enhance the entrepreneurial leadership skills of students with the best academic records. For the 2024-2025 academic year the programme will focus on the mobility sector, one of the most innovative fields that is constantly evolving, especially in sustainability, digitalisation and solutions for smart cities.

During the 2024 Vertical Workshop, students from second to fifth year designed efficient and sustainable solutions, building eight prototypes at 1:2 scaleThe winning project was titled Kigumi and stood out for its awareness of environmental issues affecting the coast of Barcelona, addressing coastal erosion and offering creative recreational and sustainable solutions for citizens

A total of 32 proposals provide solutions to connect the neighbourhoods of Barcelona, Sant Adrià del Besòs and Santa Coloma de Gramenet that border the river Besòs and create more liveable urban spaces in currently fragmented areas.The final degree projects (TFG) were presented at the headquarters of the Association of Architects of Catalonia (COAC).

Researchers of the School of Architecture Dr Carmen Mendoza, Dr Diego Navarro and Dr Marta Benages were the hosts of the start-up event of the European Erasmus+ POLIS project, funded by the European Union, in which representatives of universities from Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Portugal are participating. The POLIS project aims to help create solutions to overcome environmental and social difficulties in Latin America, through the creation of a specialised programme in urban planning

Cristina Lidón, researcher in the Biostatistics Area of the Department of Basic Sciences is leading the multidisciplinary group in which researchers from the Department of Medicine, the Faculty of Humanities and the Equality Office of the University are also participating.

The Japanese architect explained how his studio, Kengo Kuma & Associates, explores the relationship between construction and nature through an interior and exterior connection, employing a layer concept and the use of local materials

On 25 January, Enrique Rovira-Beleta, a lecturer in the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, presented the new Code of Accessibility during the event held to mark the end of the Accessible Commerce Without Barriers (CASBA) project, which took part at the Vil·la Urània Community Centre. Following the session by lecturer Rovira-Beleta, the students who took part in the project presented their proposals for improving accessibility. 

Felipe Pich-Aguilera and Teresa Batlle, professors at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture and leaders of the Pich Architects group, have directed the CaixaForum Malaga project, an iconic building that combines environmentalism and urbanism. The building will open in 2026
